The Guide to the Perfect Picnic in La Clusaz

This season is the perfect time to slow down, savor the moment… and organize a picnic in the mountains. In La Clusaz, everything comes together for the perfect picnic: local products, beautiful panoramas, and routes for all levels. We have designed the ideal picnic route just for you.

1. Preparing your picnic with local flavors

It all starts in the heart of the village of La Clusaz. To create a picnic worthy of the name, head for local specialties: local cheeses, artisanal cured meats, seasonal fruits and vegetables, crusty bread, and refreshing drinks.

Here are our recommended addresses:

Cheese

It’s impossible to come to La Clusaz without tasting the treasures of our mountains, especially the farmhouse Reblochon, the symbol of the region. For that, head to:

For an even more authentic experience, stop by one of the local farms nearby to buy directly from the source.

A short detour up in the heights will also allow you to meet passionate producers.

Cured meats

Nothing beats a good dried sausage or a slice of country ham to complete your snack:

Fruits and vegetables:

You can find fresh, seasonal products at the market or at the greengrocer.

Peaches, tomatoes, wild blueberries, or apples: the stalls are full of colors and flavors, perfect for making a fresh salad or simply for snacking on the go.

Bread

A nicely golden loaf, a crusty baguette, or a walnut bread for the true gourmets?

Drinks

To accompany it all, choose a refreshing local drink. Why not an artisanal lemonade or a beverage made from mountain herbs?

And for the adults, a small glass of génépi or a liqueur from the Distillerie des Aravis, to be enjoyed in moderation, of course!

2. Where to enjoy your picnic in La Clusaz?

Once your basket is packed, head to the heights! La Clusaz is full of spots to settle down and enjoy a meal outdoors.

Our favorite spots:

With the family:

  • Le Balcon des Aravis: Accessible on foot or via the chairlifts from Crêt du Merle and Crêt du Loup, this is an ideal spot: panoramic views, plenty of space to settle in, and enjoy in complete tranquility.
  • Le Lac de Balme: Easily accessible from Lac des Confins, it’s a perfect place for young children (from 4-5 years old). Flat terrain, peaceful atmosphere, and stunning views.

Het Lac de Balme

Het Lac de Beauregard

For moderate hikers:

  • Lac de Beauregard: Located not far from the village, it’s a beautiful spot for a peaceful moment.
  • Lac de l’Étale: Less known and therefore often quieter. Accessible from the road to the Col de Mer d’Assier, it offers a lovely nature break away from the crowds.

For experienced hikers:

  • Lac de Tardevant: A more challenging hike, suitable for children aged 10 and up. But the effort is well worth it, rewarded by the beauty of the landscape: clear lakes, imposing peaks, and a rare tranquility.
