Imagine a place where, when you walk through the door, you feel enveloped in warmth and friendliness that reminds you strangely of home… Welcome to the Ferme du Var, a rare gem nestling in the heart of La Clusaz, where authenticity reigns supreme. Between stone walls and wooden beams, the fire crackles and comfy sofas beckon you to relax for a moment, before moving to one of the seven bedrooms in this exceptional place.
Deeply rooted in the family’s history, the Ferme du Var is living testimony of the strong attachment to its origins. Built at the end of the 18th century by the Thovex family, this traditional family farm has passed down from generation to generation. It was Brigitte Thovex who inherited the farm from her parents in the early 2000s and undertook several years of renovation work to turn it into a bed and breakfast. While preserving the traditional charm of yesteryear, Brigitte breathed new life and love into the farm for the enjoyment of its guests. After many wonderful years of this lively, happy place, Brigitte’s death in 2018 wouldn’t stop the Ferme du Var from writing the next chapter in its history…
It was then that Léo, Brigitte’s son, who wanted the farm to stay in the family, decided to offer his cousins, Mathilde and Sarah Kleiber, a great adventure: to pick up the torch and continue running the Ferme du Var. With a mix of refreshing innocence and unfailing determination, these two bubbly young women took the plunge without asking too many questions. Aged just 23 and 26 at the time, it was an obvious move for them, a return to their roots, backed up by their intimate knowledge of the area.
Together, Mathilde and Sarah organise the day-to-day running of the Ferme du Var: from welcoming guests to preparing breakfasts to cleaning the rooms, nothing is left to chance. With meticulous upkeep and close attention to detail, they keep the soul of this unique place alive, while adding a personal touch. Their enthusiasm and love for this place, which is steeped in history, make every stay a gentle immersion into Savoy life.
Under the management of this bubbly duo, the Ferme du Var is more than just a guest house. It’s a place where authenticity and human warmth come together to offer every visitor an unforgettable experience, marked by precious memories and honest-to-goodness encounters. A place where you feel at home, surrounded by the history and passion of your hosts.
Mathilde and Sarah serve breakfast.
While Mathilde makes a trip to the village to pick up bread and pastries at the Maniez bakery, Sarah makes the coffee and puts out a generous buffet. Cereals, yoghurt and fromage blanc, seasonal fruit, homemade Savoy cake and famous farmhouse Reblochon cheese from the neighbouring Ferme des Corbassières.
At 8:00 a.m., guests gather around the large table for breakfast, where it’s not uncommon for conversations to spark up, creating a real sense of sharing and familiarity between hosts and guests and making every stay unique.
