THE TOURIST OFFICE’S COMMITMENTS
We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our activities by promoting energy efficiency, waste reduction, responsible purchasing and sustainable mobility. We actively contribute to preserving the natural heritage that defines the identity of La Clusaz.
We foster a respectful, inclusive and collaborative working environment that enables everyone to develop their skills, contribute to continuous improvement and play an active role in our collective success.
We support the economic and social development of our region by prioritising local partnerships, promoting Alpine expertise and encouraging tourism that respects both residents and visitors.
THE MUNICIPALITY’S COMMITMENTS
1. Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The municipality recognises that transport and buildings are the main sources of local greenhouse gas emissions. It is therefore committed to:
- Developing low-carbon mobility solutions:
– Free shuttle buses within the resort.
– La Clusaz actively supports carpooling and, in partnership with the Auvergne–Rhône-Alpes Region, has created a dedicated community on the MOV’ICI platform to encourage shared journeys. - Improving the energy performance of public and private buildings:
– The Tourist Office has switched to LED lighting throughout its premises. - As part of the municipality’s traffic and parking policy, and in partnership with Syane, electric vehicle charging stations have been installed.
- Gradually replacing fossil fuels with lower-carbon energy solutions, such as heat pumps:
– The municipal swimming pool has been equipped with a heat pump, significantly reducing its CO₂ emissions.
2. Protecting Water Resources
In response to increasing drought risks, the municipality is working to secure its drinking water supply through water storage projects and more sustainable water resource management.
3. Diversifying Tourism
Recognising that climate change is affecting winter sports, La Clusaz is committed to:
- Developing year-round activities such as hiking, mountain biking, nature discovery, gastronomy, heritage and agriculture;
- Strengthening the resort’s summer appeal;
- Promoting more sustainable tourism that is less dependent on snowfall.
4. Protecting Natural and Agricultural Heritage
The municipality supports:
- A thriving mountain farming sector;
- The preservation of landscapes and biodiversity;
- Local farms, which play a vital role in preserving the identity of the region.
5. Waste Management
- 26 voluntary waste collection points managed by the Vallée de Thônes Community of Municipalities.
- One cardboard compactor to facilitate recycling and reduce waste volume.
- Two public composting sites to recover organic waste and encourage local composting.
- La Clusaz hosts a collection point for the Bouchons 74 association at the Town Hall. This solidarity initiative collects plastic, cork, synthetic cork (silicone), metal caps and lids for recycling. The proceeds help fund practical support for people with disabilities, including adapted equipment and accessibility improvements.
- Every year, at the end of April or beginning of May, the Town Hall, Tourist Office, Satelc, Sports Club and local businesses organise a clean-up campaign to collect litter along ski slopes and riverbanks.
- In partnership with the Vallées de Thônes Community of Municipalities, La Clusaz also organises an end-of-season collection of used mountain sports equipment. From early April to mid-May, a dedicated container is available in the Gotty business park, where residents, rental companies, retailers, clubs and associations can dispose of unwanted mountain sports equipment for recycling.

An eco-friendly stay in La Clusaz means enjoying the mountains while minimising your environmental impact and respecting local residents, farmers and wildlife.
Here are a few simple ways to make your stay more sustainable:

- Choose sustainable transport and carpooling: Whenever possible, travel to the resort by train and bus, use the free local shuttle buses, and get around on foot or by bike once you arrive. Transport generally accounts for the largest share of the carbon footprint of a mountain holiday. Use the Got to La Clusaz app to find the most environmentally friendly way to travel to La Clusaz.
- Choose environmentally committed accommodation: Stay in establishments that actively reduce water and energy consumption, provide waste sorting facilities and promote locally sourced products.
- Stay on marked trails in summer: Avoid taking shortcuts to help protect the soil, vegetation and natural habitats.
- Take all your waste home: Bring a reusable water bottle and reusable containers, leave no litter in nature and use the municipality’s recycling points.
- Sort your waste: Take your waste with you and dispose of it correctly using the recycling and waste collection points available throughout the resort.
- Protect biodiversity: Observe wildlife from a distance, do not pick wildflowers, keep noise to a minimum and never feed wild animals.
- Respect mountain pastures: Keep a safe distance from grazing animals, close gates after passing through, keep your dog on a lead and get off your bike when crossing grazing areas.
- Support local businesses: Buy your products from local farmers and shops, enjoy seasonal Savoyard specialities and favour short supply chains.
